Winter Driving

Winter is vast approaching and it’s important to stay ahead of the game, especially relating to your vehicle.

Of course safety is the top priority when driving no matter what season it is, but winter is especially important. We’ve compiled a list of helpful tips to keep you and your family safe and prepared on the road this upcoming winter season.

  1. Pack your vehicle with items that you may need in the event of an emergency:

    • An extra pair of gloves, hats, scarves, etc.,
    • A flashlight,
    • A first aide kit,
    • Hand warmers,
    • A portable charger (if possible),
    • Emergency contact numbers (in case your phone dies).
  2. Check the following items on your vehicle to ensure they’re in good, working condition:

    • Tire pressure,
    • Oil levels,
    • Battery,
    • Windshield wiper fluid,
    • Antifreeze,
    • Headlights and rear-lights,
    • Consider purchasing snow tires.
  3. If you find your vehicle sliding on ice, remember to “pump the brakes” and especially don’t slam on the brakes. This will lock your vehicle’s tires up causing you to go even more out of control.

  4. In the event of a road emergency, remember to always stay calm – no matter what!

  5. Always remember to have Roadside Assistance either on your auto insurance policy or through a trustworthy source.
